Oh my god, we can’t believe it.... It’s official: Kaiser Chiefs, Yorkshire’s finest multi-million selling indie rock band will be making their long-awaited Singaporean debut at Fort Canning Park on Apr 7. Kaiser Chiefs will head over to the Lion City after headlining Australia’s V Festival. Comprised of vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines and drummer Nick Hodgson, Kaiser Chiefs are currently on tour in support of their critically acclaimed latest long-player “Off With Their Heads”, which was produced by none other than Brit wunderkind and celebrity superfan Mark Ronson.
Living up to their reputation as one of the hardest working rock outfits in Britain, Off With Their Heads ¬ the band’s third long player, arrived a mere eighteen months after the release of their second album “Yours Truly, Angry Mob”, which ended up as the best selling UK rock album of 2007. Their rousing 2005 debut album “Employment” enjoyed plenty of international success with sales over three million and remained in the UK Top 40 for a whopping 18 months.
The Kaiser Chiefs' success story is one of hard work and perseverance with their career finally taking off in 2005 following a high- profile appearance at the Glastonbury Festival after a decade of obscurity and knockbacks. On that momentous occasion, the band rocked the main stage and had the crowd eating out of the palm of its (collective) hand. The summer of 2005 also marked the 20th anniversary of Live Aid with the Chiefs invited to open proceedings for the Philadelphia leg of the day long celebrations, performing alongside living legends like Stevie Wonder. After such a productive and fruitful summer charming the masses, the only way was up for the five Yorkshire lads,
The band sealed their place in the hearts of British indie fans in 2006 with triumphant sets at the Reading & Leeds, T In The Park and Oxygen Festivals. In February 2006, the Kaiser Chiefs won three Brit Awards, for Best Group, Best British Rock Act and Best Live Act, confirming their status as one of the most popular bands currently rocking the UK.
So if its stomping indie anthems executed with plenty of punk rock pizzazz that you are after, Kaiser Chiefs at Fort Canning, Singapore in April is definitely the place to be. The Koko Asia verdict? We predict a riot for sure!!
